RALEIGH, N.C. — Vance Elementary School was placed on lockdown during Thursday afternoon dismissal after a threat was made against the school.

Principal Sarah Simmons said that the building was placed under a code red lockdown, the highest security alert, after an unspecified threat was made via phone.

Simmons said Wake County Public School System security and local law enforcement officers arrived quickly and found no intruder on the campus. The lockdown lasted for less than 15 minutes.

During the lockdown, parents who had arrived to pick up their children had to remain in their vehicles and staff members were not able to answer phones inside the school.
