NHL All-Star Game prompts RDU to offer bounty on terminal project
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority approved an incentives package Thursday in an effort to finish Terminal 2 in time for the NHL All-Star Game next January.

Archer Western Contractors Ltd. will receive a $590,000 bonus if it finishes the second phase of the terminal project by Dec. 6. Finishing between Dec. 7 and Dec. 13 will bring a $300,000 bonus.
The $400 million contract on both portions of the Terminal 2 project called for the second phase to be finished by Jan. 3, 2011.
RDU officials said they want Archer Western to finish early enough to give vendors plenty of time to get their shops and restaurants open for the visitors expected to arrive in the Triangle for the Jan. 30 NHL All-Star Game.
"Visitors from all over the world will be flying into RDU for the All-Star Game. Terminal 2 was designed to showcase our region, and we feel an obligation to do what we can to have it completed in time for the game," airport authority Chairman Rob Teer said in a statement.
The airport authority also signed off Thursday on plans to add several shops in Terminal 2, including a PGA Tour shop, a gourmet eatery called Flavors, a wine bar featuring North Carolina wines and other spirits and a food court that will include a Five Guys hamburger joint and a Jason’s Deli.
