Complications from a "gaping" stab wound led to the death of a Durham man in April, according to an autopsy report released Friday.

Crystal Mangum, 32, the Durham woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006, is charged with murder in the man's death.

Police have said that Reginald Daye, 46,was stabbed with a kitchen knife during an April 3 argument at his apartment, at 3507 Century Oaks Drive. He died 10 days later.

According to the autopsy report, the stab wound punctured Daye's left lung and tore through his diaphragm, stomach, colon, left kidney and spleen. Daye also had what appeared to be defensive wounds on his left arm, the report states.

Daye and Mangum had been dating for about a month at the time of his death, but his family members said they weren't a couple. They said Daye was only trying to help Mangum get back on her feet and had provided her a place to stay.

In March 2006, Mangum claimed three white players on the Duke lacrosse team trapped her inside a bathroom at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd., where she was performing as a stripper at a team party, and raped and sexually assaulted her.

Her story about the incident was so inconsistent that state officials later declared the players innocent, saying there was no credible evidence against them.

The hatred mentality here is shared by folks who used to mob rally with torches demanding that something be done about the “witch”.

It’s good that we now have a legal system that can’t be swayed by emotional people who know nothing of the incident.

MrD3, I agree with everything you said (very well, too!), except that her lies didn't get Nifong disbarred, HIS lies did. And he wasn't punished nearly enough. Look at this board, there are still some who wonder if the players raped this murderer.

They were lucky she was too drunk and stoned that night to be wielding a knife! And because WRAL won't publish my earlier comments, I'll say again: they began all their own trouble by hiring a prostitute.

where's her support group this time? Nobody to riot and say she was framed?

Yep, keep on paying people to have children and we'll continue seeing this.

Somehow in your bloodlust for justice, a glaring fact seems to escape many of you: the woman is crazy, pure and simple. She is just as crazy as the boy who shot Rep. Giffords, the gunman and bomber in Norway or any other psychotic sociopath out there. She needs to be committed in an institution for the criminally insane and kept there for a long, long time if not for life. They need to be removed from society. But in order to do an effective job, there needs to be a mechanism that identifies them, treats them or get them off our streets in some way. Reasonable?

Oh wait, the budget cuts to mental services address that right? YOu know, we can't keep spending ya know, we gotta balance the budget and Horrors!! No new taxes to help keep them from killing us, but we can spend money on the other side for the prison system. Maybe we need a Lottery to help pay for mental health services. What a sorry state of affairs we find ourselves in. No problem though, it's all Obama's fault, right?
