RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police were searching by ground and by air Thursday morning for the people who committed an armed robbery in which shots were fired.

Police said that a person was robbed at gunpoint outside a convenience store at Tryon and Lake Wheeler roads. Shots were fired during the robbery, but no one was injured.

Minutes later, officers spotted a vehicle believed to be used in the robbery, police said. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off and crashed on Lake Wheeler Road, near Interstate 40. The vehicle's occupants took off on foot.

Police said they caught a couple suspects but are still searching for more. The state Highway Patrol helicopter was flying to assist in the search.

The names of the suspects haven't been released.
