LILLINGTON, N.C. — A Harnett County jury found Antonio Byrd guilty Monday in the death of a child in his care.

Byrd was living with Miracle McLean's mother in Spring Lake in 2007. He told investigators that the child, then 2, drowned.

An autopsy showed Miracle died of blunt force trauma and noted she had received blows to the head and abdomen.

The jury found Byrd guilty of involuntary manslaughter and a judge sentenced him to 20 to 24 months in prison. Byrd, who had been in custody since his arrest in Miracle's death, got credit for time served and was released after the verdict.
