Week at Camp Dixie canceled after campers, staff become ill

A Bladen County camp has suspended the summer season while campers and staff recover from flu-like symptoms, a spokeswoman said.

About 60 people showed signs of illness at Camp Dixie Friday, camp Director of Ministry Lana Jernigan said.

As a precaution, campers were sent home and the county Health Department was notified. The camp session that would have begun Monday was canceled so that workers can get well and facilities can be cleaned and disinfected, she said. Camp was to resume July 5.

The health director said late Monday approximately 10 patients tested positive for influenza, and that those cases are being considered as H1N1.

You both are right. No one wants to admit that there is an outbreak greater than we think.... There have been less severe cases than actual,,,,,, but the ones laughing will not laugh long if they contract it.

The state health departments are reluctant to tell the public...... This stuff will kill you.

Correct. Unless you are hospitalized, the state will not take you sample. LabCorp will do a test but the results take 2 weeks. Ask any MD of they ever see Seasonal A or B in NO in late July.

They weren't diagnosed with swine flu because they weren't tested. NC is no longer testing for swine flu, except in a few specific locations and/or if one is hospitalized. One is to assume it's swine flu because that's what's going around.
