e-mail print friendly

A Durham man was killed Sunday after a motorcycle wreck on Old Oxford Highway, the Durham Highway Patrol said.

Spencer Abersold, 54, was driving his motorcycle south on the highway when a van turned in front of him, troopers said. Abersold collided with the van.

Abersold died at Duke Hospital.

The driver of the van, Angelo Moore, 40, was not injured. A young boy, who was a passenger in the van, was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending.

Automobile Drivers: Please, before pulling out into an intersection, look left--look right--then look left again. Repeat if necessary.

I'd put my money that the 54 year old guy was not riding that fast.

before wondering if the driver of the van should be charged, how fast was the driver of the motorcycle going? Dont be so quick to judge without all the facts.

So many accidents on motorcycles - it's just a shame! We are having a real hard problem with bicycle riders on Highway 10 in Durham. They are all over the place in that area from Durham to Hillsborough and in their stupidity of thinking that these roads are safe and they are untouchable, I am so afraid of running one of them down. We got behind several very rude riders yesterday coming home from Hillsborough. They were riding down the curvy part of Highway 10 with no hands on the handlebars, weaving all over the road with no concern to cars behind or in front of them - it was very disrespectful and their brash behavior is going to get one of them destroyed, hopefully NOT by me. I have come so close to running them down, it's scary. They need to be taxed to drive those bikes on the road, just as we are. Some are seriously rude and discourteous on these roads PLUS we just CAN'T see them around curves and over the hills.......GET OFF THE ROAD BICYCLES!

Oh, forgot to add. Prayers to the family.
