Larry McDade - mug shot 12/18/08 - crashed vehicle into Raleigh Waffle House

Not even a vehicle crashing into the restaurant could stop Waffle House patrons from eating there early Thursday.

Raleigh police arrested Larry McDade after he crashed a vehicle into the restaurant at 2624 Westinghouse Blvd.

No one was injured. Damage to the restaurant was believed to be between $1,000 and $2,000.

Waffle House employees continued serving customers while crews made repairs and cleaned up the mess.

Authorities said McDade was impaired when he crashed around 4 a.m. Police charged him with driving while impaired and possession of cocaine.

Raleigh police said McDade had recently been released from prison on drug charges. Department of Correction records indicate he was released in August after serving two sentences related to 2003 drug convictions for trafficking and possession.

He has a lengthy criminal record in Wake County, including multiple convictions for selling drugs, dating to 1996.

I'd be willing to bet (ducking the oncoming comments) that most of em in there at that hour were probably in the same condition....I know I was the last time I was in a waffle house at 4 am......(been a long time ago, though!)

If I'm up at 4:00AM Because either I never went to bed, or I had to get up that early, I'm interested in one thing-GRUB.

I like how those folks think.

I thought the directions were clear: 1. Park Car, 2. Enter restaurant, 3. Sit down and place order, 4. Eat / drink, 5. Pay, 6. Leave restaurant, and 7. Drive Away. Obviously, some clarity must be added:

1. Park Car ... properly, OUTSIDE, and within a designated space, 2. Enter restaurant ... by walking in, 3. Sit down ... at a table or the bar and place order, 4. Eat / drink ... from our selection of non-alcoholic beverages, 5. Pay ... using cash or valid credit card in your own legal name, 6. Leave restaurant ... again, by walking out, 7. Drive away ... safely and upon only the paved parking lot.

Sound good...an order of hash browns (scattered, topped and wrecked).

This is the one off Capitol near the beltline and Perkins. What other customers do they have at 4 am? Though there is a collection of other late night places up there with the Dunkin Donuts, IHOP, and other 24 hours businesses nearby.

Doing a few thousand dollars of damage to a Waffle House means the car scattered, smothered, and chunked a few windows and a booth or two, but stopped before the counter and kitchen equipment.
