A Cumberland County deputy used a Taser on three students involved in a fight at Seventy-First High School Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident marked the second time in seven months a law enforcement agent has used a Taser on students at the school.

On Wednesday, the students were arguing over a girl when the dispute escalated into a fight outside the school's auditorium shortly after 9:30 a.m., authorities said.

The deputy, whose name wasn't released, is assigned to Seventy-First High as a school resource officer, and he resorted to using his Taser after an unsuccessful attempt at breaking up the fight, authorities said.

The device delivers an electric shock that subdues people.

No injuries were reported.

Students Rashad Smith, 16, Keenan Brown, 18, Deangelo Pine, 16, and Michael Mathis, 18, have been charged with disorderly conduct, simple affray and resisting arrest in the incident.

School officials said the students also will face disciplinary action.

It s better than a gun and most kids could use a good tazzing parents arent going to control them like they should with a belt and a stick

Put them in jail.

I can see the headline now..."Officer slams kid to the ground and breaks his (insert body part)." Good to see that most people on here understand the many challenges that LEOs face. Especially in our increasingly violent public schools. Plain and simple, when you have gang members and other thugs in public schools, this is going to happen. When mom and grandma are raising these kids and dad is no where to be found some kids tend to fall through the cracks.

Very simple answer... lazy parenting. Did you read my entire post?

DeathRow: That's an interesting theory. So the "Dr. Phil" question of the day then is: Why is it then that all of us who were brought up so well 20-40 years ago happen to have all these mean and impolite kids?

Is their hope then, using the two wrongs making a right analogy that faulty parents and degenerate kids are going to somehow produce something more positive next generation?

I dunno, but I can't see placing 100% of the blame on parents anymore than I can putting it on the kids. It has, and always will be, a 50/50 proposition.
