Raleigh, N.C. — The City Council on Tuesday approved plans for a downtown hotel that would have a rooftop bar.
The proposed 11-story Powerhouse Plaza, located on West Jones Street, across North West Street from the 42nd Street Oyster Bar, would have five stories of offices and a hotel with 134 rooms and an indoor pool, according to a site plan.
A 5,440-square-foot rooftop bar would sit atop the building.
A six-level parking deck with 397 spaces would be located on the northern portion of the site, between Harrington and West streets.

Why complain about condos in the comments for a story about a building that won't have any?
Comparing Rudino's Rooftop, the Clarion's enclosed bar, the private club bars (Cardinal, Capital City), or the unmentioned "hybrid" -- the outdoor bar on the second floor of Foster's in Cameron Village -- to a rooftop bar on an 11 story builing is silly. Solas on Glenwood South will have a "rooftop" bar on its 3rd story when it opens.
Traffic? The idea is that bar patrons will be staying in the hotel (or other ones nearby), live nearby in Cameron Park or the condos (Quorum, West, 222, 510, etc.), or use the upcoming downtown circulator.
I'd rather people stay in a hotel near Glenwood South than drive while tired and/or intoxicated.

We have a grocery store downtown---Capital City Grocery at Seaboard Station. It's well-stocked and even has live music on the porch on Friday nights.

here are other places to drink high in the sky, though, such as the Cardinal Club, or whatever parking deck you feel like taking a 40 up on.
