RALEIGH, N.C. — A fire at the North Carolina Museum of Art forced the evacuation of the facility Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Raleigh firefighters responded to the fire at 3:20 p.m. Officials said sparks from a welding torch fell on some materials that were being torn down. The materials started smoldering, creating a fire in a room that construction was being done on.

Officials evacuated the museum as a precaution and decided to close it a couple hours early.

No injuries were reported.
