FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged under a new state law aimed at curbing the theft of copper wire, authorities said Wednesday.

Glenn Junior Maynor, 41, of 2312 Indian Creek Drive, was arrested Tuesday and charged with injuring wires and other fixtures of telephone/telegraph and electric power companies.

The law making the theft a felony went into effect in December.

Investigators said Maynor cut copper wire from utility poles along Judson Church and Sunnyside School Roads on Tuesday. A concerned citizen reported seeing him carrying a bucket and wire snips and cutting the copper from the base of a power pole, authorities said.
