Wake County Schools to Hire More Teachers

The Wake County School Board voted Tuesday afternoon to hire more teachers to meet state class size requirements.

The state requires schools to have no more than 24 students per teacher in grades Kindergarten through third grade.

Wake County schools had asked for the requirement to be waived for 26 elementary classrooms, but the state would not allow it.

The school board decided to allocated funds to hire teachers in 13 schools not meeting size requirements. This will prevent students from having to be moved to other classrooms.

Principals can also hire temporary teachers if needed.

School leaders said meeting the size requirement has been especially challenging since the district is growing by about 6,000 students a year.

the problem isn"t not enough teachers, the problem is too many students

Per the N&O this morning Mr Burns is opposed to splitting up the oversized classes, well Mr Burns welcome to reassignment. What good for the whole of Wake County is good for people who run it too. Seems you want you cake and eat it too. So now deal with what you are putting parents through each year of reassignment.

Good. My daughter has 29 in her class now. She is in 1st grade.

jf- walk in a classroom today. 'Back when'.... parents were parents. Now teachers are parents and teachers because many parents don't do their job. Not pointing fingers, just stating facts.

More teachers means more payroll means more property taxes charged to Wake County Taxpayers. Isn't that a big surprise.

Instead of actually teaching a decent and effective cirriculum, that just want to reduce class sizes and tax the citizens of Wake County.

When I was in school we had sometimes 30 kids or more. We did not have a problem learning what was presented to us. So why now do teachers have such a hard time doing there jobs? Could be that they are lazy or maybe the administration has tied their hands so that they can't teach effectively?
