SEYMOUR JOHNSON AFB — A popular air show in Wayne County has been canceled for this year, but organizers said they expect it to return to the skies in 2009.
About 100,000 people attended the most recent "Wings Over Wayne" event last May, pumping more than $2 million into the local economy, officials said.
Organizers said a year off will give them a chance to recover and reorganize.
The Navy's Blue Angels headlined last year's show, and organizers said they hope the flying team will return to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base for the next event.
