A private plane landed on its belly in the general aviation area of Raleigh-Durham International Airport Wednesday, RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said.

No one was injured in the incident, and commercial air traffic wasn't affected, she said.

The landing occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m when the Piper Seneca landed on Runway 14-32 after experiencing trouble with its landing gear, officials said.

It was not immediately clear whether the pilot, the only person on the plane, had communicated with the airport tower that he was having problems.

If they land you downwind at RDU it usually is a hard landing.

I was on a Southwest Airlines flight one time. When we "touched down", it was the hardest landing I have ever been on. I mean the sound we made when we "hit" the ground was a loud BAM!! You could hear the gasps throughout the plane.

Once the landing was done and we were taxiing to the airport, the pilot said over the intercom, "The city we just attacked was Raleigh/Durham..." Most of us erupted into laughter (albeit nervous laughter). I thought it was good that he was able to be honest about something like that, and at least have a laugh about it.

I wonder when they will tell us who the pilot is? We hear all the other pilots names when they have issues.

A Seneca is a six passenger - the Seminole is a four right? Is a Seneca Pressurized ?
