Person pair plead guilty to robbing armored car
Two Person County men pleaded guilty Monday to robbing more than $1.2 million from an armored car in Washington, N.C., last year, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedCharles Richard Moore Jr., 29, and Lenard Smith, 33, both of Timberlake, pleaded guilty to violating the Hobbs Act, the federal law that prohibits robbery affecting interstate commerce, and using a firearm during a violent crime.
A Garda armored car was outside a Bank of America branch automated teller on June 23 when it was robbed, authorities said.
A third man, Emmanuel Wallace III, pleaded guilty in April to the same charges in the case.
Wallace is expected to be sentenced in August, and sentencing for Moore and Smith is set for September. All three face up to life in federal prison and up to a $500,000 fine.
