Cherokee school officials disciplined in alleged hazing incident
Five Cherokee High School employees, including the principal and vice principal, are under investigation for what's being called a hazing incident involving a disabled man.
Posted — UpdatedThe school system has suspended the principal, vice principal and basketball coaches at Cherokee High with pay, pending the results of the investigation.
A disabled man who helps out with the school's sports teams was forced to eat hot sauce because he attended a basketball game that didn't involve the school, authorities said. The man wasn't injured.
It was unclear when the incident occurred.
Cherokee police said the incident doesn't amount to a crime, so no charges will be filed.
The Cherokee tribal council met with the school board on Monday, and the board chairman said the district would handle the incident according to personnel policies once the investigation is completed.
