HENDERSON, N.C. — A Henderson man was killed Thursday afternoon during a shooting at a local intersection, Vance County Sheriff Peter White said Friday.

Lonnie Yancey was a passenger in a car stopped at the intersection of Vanco Mill and Garrett roads at about 3 p.m. when someone jumped out of another car that pulled up at the intersection and fired several shots at him, White said.

The gunman then got back into the second car, which sped away, White said.

Yancey was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Investigators have suspects, White said, but he declined to release other information.
