State trooper injured in Nash County wreck

Spring Hope, N.C. — A state trooper was injured in a wreck after running a stop sign at an intersection in Nash County Wednesday evening, troopers said.

Trooper B.S. Johnson ran a stop sign at Strickland Crossroads and N.C. Highway 97 shortly before 7 p.m., state troopers said. He swerved to the right to avoid an oncoming car on N.C. 97, but the car struck the back, left side of the trooper's Chevrolet Tahoe, which flipped over.

Johnson was treated and released from Nash Memorial Hospital. A woman in the car was checked out at Wilson Medical Center as a precaution.

Troopers said that Johnson was unfamiliar with the area and was going the posted speed limit of 55 mph. The wreck remains under investigation.

@007KnightRider Unless you were actually onscene at the accident like I was then maybe you should keep your comments to yourself. I am very familiar with that intersection, probably more familiar that you are. Even people that KNOW the area run the stop signs & caution lights there. Caution lights were put there due to the high number of accidents and they havent solved the problem. That intersection has been a prone to accidents for MANY MANY years & I have been at just about all of the accidents there. The Trooper and the other lady were very blessed that the accident was not worse than it was.

I understand that the trooper made the mistake. But that's just part of this tale. The woman involved in this accident also tried to avoid the accident she slamed on her brakes when she seen him. Just to let everyone know that she's still has to go to the dr. To b able to find out the extent of her injuries. I'm not bad mouthing anyone but there were to people involved not jut the trooper.

Considering the miles they put in under all conditions, including chasing down bad guys,it's amazing that the NC State Troopers' don't have more accidents. Meanwhile, I see people running "slop" signs all day, every day without giving it a second thought. Even thoughtful drivers have momentary lapses and, if we're honest with ourselves, we will each admit that we've been there. Thankfully, our guardian angel often looks out for us better than we look out for ourselves.

You know, alot of you don't even know this Trooper so you should not even pass judgement on him. I know this Trooper, he is a part of my Family. He is devoted to his job and would have never done anything to put others in danger. This same Trooper was drug by an intoxicated lady who almost killed him about a year ago. No body is perfect, we all make mistake that we regret. I know Trooper Johnson is beating up himself over this accident. People move on and let this rest. Let the professionals do their investigation. It is by the grace of God that he is alive today.
