Men accused of stealing Cumberland sheriff's bait car

Authorities said Friday that Jose Antonio Rivera Reyes, 50, of 5105 Higgins St., and Christopher Bill Ostolaza, 26, of 5007 Higgins St., took the car from a rural road in Cumberland County on Wednesday. They also took a GPS and a mobile phone from the car.

The men were identified from surveillance video from inside the bait car, investigators said.

Reyes is charged with misdemeanor larceny of goods, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and conspiracy.

Reyes and Ostolaza were being held under $11,000 and $10,000 bonds respectively in the Cumberland County Detention Center on Friday.

Reyes is a fugitive from Michigan on felony charges of possession of cocaine, the sheriff's office said. He recently served time in North Carolina for identity theft, according to North Carolina Department of Correction records.

Ostolaza is on probation for larceny.
