RALEIGH, N.C. — A former superior court judge from Wake County known for speaking her mind died this week, her pastor said.

Evelyn Hill was elected to an eight-year term on the bench in 2000 and resigned that position at the end of 2005. Her comments in court got her censured twice and she faced a third complaint when she stepped down.

In complaints to the N.C. Judicial Standards Commission, lawyers claimed Hill berated, belittled and mocked them and made racially insensitive remarks. She denied some allegations and apologized for others.

Bob Inskeep, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh said Hill's daughter discovered Hill in her bed Thursday morning. She was 62.
