FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Wake County authorities took a man into custody after a nearly five-hour standoff at a mobile home in Fuquay-Varina early Monday.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the home at 2820 Green Clover Drive late Sunday. Upon arrival, they said Bryant Mims, 43, was inside the home.

Deputies were concerned Mims was holding a woman hostage but soon realized he was alone.

“We tried several times to talk him out and then we had to put the tear gas in. Once the tear gas was in, he came out with his hands up. (He) did not give us any trouble whatsoever,” Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

No one was injured.

Mims was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and resisting a law enforcement officer.

He was being held under a $25,000 bond in the Wake County jail on Monday.

Deputies said Mims has previously been accused of domestic violence.
