Wake County, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office confirmed that deputies shot and killed a man near Wake Forest Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses at the scene said deputies were called to a house on Bold Run Hill Road in northern Wake County to investigate a domestic dispute. They said that when deputies arrived, Cody Knisley came out with a shotgun.
Danny Ray McCloud said his sister is Knisley's wife. McCloud said he witnessed the shooting.
"He was walking toward the police, and they told him, 'Drop it, drop it, drop it. Let us see your hands, let us see your hands,'" McCloud said. "I guess when he went to pose a threat to them and pick up the gun, they shot him. ... You heard about 20 shots."
Knisley's family said he suffered from mental problems and had been suicidal.
"I don't want to bury my son," said Knisley's mother, Pamela Hart, adding that she doesn't hold the Wake County Sheriff's Office responsible.
"It was his fault," she said.
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said at least three deputies were involved. These deputies are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure when officers use deadly force.
"That way there's no controversy," Harrison said.
