Families remember slain, missing Rocky Mount women

The group Parents and Relatives of Missing and Murdered women held the event at East End Baptist Church.

Supporters sang and prayed for the women, who share similar backgrounds and physical appearances.

Many frequented Holly Street in Rocky Mount, an area known for drug activity and prostitution. Many of the women knew each other, their families say.

Authorities arrested Antwan Pittman more than a year ago for one of the deaths. Investigators said he is the main person of interest in at least six of the other cases.

The remains of most of the women were found in the same rural are of Edgecombe County.

Among those who attended the service on Saturday was a former prostitute who knew and worked alongside most of the victims.

Edna Anderson said the killings inspired her to get off of drugs and turn her life around.

“See, me and these ladies stood on the same corners. We sometimes, mainly, got with the same people,” Anderson said. “It’s by the grace of God that this guy didn’t run into me or pick me up…I thank God for that.”

PROMM is also marking its one year anniversary. Members said they will continue to push for answers in the unsolved cases.
