Third person charged in Raleigh triple shooting

Police charged Joseph Freeman, 20, with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in the shooting, which happened just before 3:30 a.m. in the Oakwood Park community near the 700 block of Glascock Street.

Denise Rochelle Eason, 20, of 1103 E. Lane St., and Latasheanna Hollins, 22, of 1106-101 Summerkings Court, were arrested earlier Monday in the case and charged with one count each of conspiracy to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

According to arrest warrants, Eason and Hollins plotted with another man, Ricky Dontrey Collins, 29, to shoot Freeman. Instead, the women and Collins were shot, police said.

Collins was shot five times below the waist – in the groin, buttocks, both legs and in the foot, according to police. He was in critical condition and had not been charged in the case as of Tuesday morning.

Freeman is accused of shooting Collins, Raleigh police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said.

Both women were also injured. They were treated at WakeMed and released into police custody.

Residents of Oakwood Park said they were shaken by the morning’s shooting but said Monday night at a community meeting that they still believe their neighborhood is safe.

In recent years, the area has had a very activity community watch program that residents say has helped reduce crime there.

“We’ve worked hard to make our neighborhood save. This is a setback,” said resident Mark Turner.

“It’s unfortunate that it happened, but it makes you realize you can talk to your neighbors,” he added. “You can watch out for them. They can watch out for you. It makes us stronger in the long run.”
