Siler City man charged after search, school lockdown
A Siler City man faces more than 20 charges after a search and school lockdown Friday afternoon that authorities say was sparked by reports of an assault by an armed man.
Posted — UpdatedChatham County Sheriff's Office officials said the incident with a report that Johnnie Clifton Fogleman III, 26, had assaulted a family member and was seen driving a red three-wheeler and carrying a gun.
Silk Hope Elementary School in Siler City was locked down as a precaution during the search, which involved deputies, the state Highway Patrol and state Wildlife Resource officers. Fogleman was arrested around 3:30 p.m. No one was injured.
Fogleman, of 624 Bowers Store Road, was given a $75,000 bond. His first court appearance was set for Sept. 13.
On Saturday, the sheriff's office announced that they had filed 22 charges against him:
- going armed to the terror of the public
- disorderly conduct – disrupting or interfering with students
- fleeing or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle
- driving while impaired
- two counts of assault on a female
- simple assault
- communicating threats
- interfering with emergency communications
- two counts of injury to personal property
- two counts of resisting public officers
- reckless driving to endanger persons or property
- failure to heed lights or siren
- no operator's license
- driving with a revoked license
- driving a motor vehicle with no registration
- operating an ATV on a street, road or highway
- operating an ATV without helmet or eye protection
- no insurance
- expired/no inspection
State Department of Correction show that Fogleman has a 2006 DWI conviction, 2002 convictions for speeding to elude arrest and reckless driving and a 2003 conviction for damage to property. He was sentenced to probation after those convictions.
