LITTLETON, N.C. — A newlywed couple had a scare last weekend when one their wedding rings ended up at the bottom of Lake Gaston.

Karin and George Pasini, originally of Florida, are spending the month at their home on Lake Gaston. Last week during a family party, Karin Pasini was in the water floating on a boat cushion when she noticed the ring was gone.

When the couple purchased the rings less than a year ago, Karin Pasini said the jeweler told her the rings were one of a kind and made in Italy.

With the ring at the bottom of the lake, she thought there was no hope to get it back.

Family members kept swimming to the bottom to search for the ring, but no one could find it.

Then, relatives had the idea to go looking for scuba gear. A neighbor had just what they needed.

Within 10 minutes of putting on the gear, divers found the ring.

“I didn’t have to replace it for something else which I wasn’t married with,” Karin Pasini said. “So, this feels very, very special.”

The couple will celebrate their anniversary next month by taking a cruise in Florida.
