Some of the comments made are very dishearting. As if all the "horrible" crimes are due to young black men with guys. Kathy Taft and Michele Young were both taken by middle aged white men. Well Michele Young's case is still pending but most believe her husband is at fault. Before we judge let's be real. Crime is everywhere and everyone races comments them. I feel for all parties. And I pray justice will be done. If the young men who got shot did something in the past , then it's up for the police to handle that issue.

This is what I consider outside downtown, but only by a few blocks. My suggestion, as much as I love Raleigh, is to stay away from the entire New Bern Ave. corridor between downtown and New Hope Rd.

"Because in Raleigh, it mostly only happens in a small area that NO ONE visits. In Durham, it seems to happen across most of the city." deathrow

Wrong people huh... what were they doing to be mistaken as the "TARGETS". Have they had any past run ins with the law? Your friends that is... So if you know they weren't the correct targets, then you (your friends) must have known who they were, correct, how else would you know this was an "accidental" shooting...

    Ignore Report abuse

Fine with me. live like a thug/punk, die like a thug/punk.
They know the difference between right/wrong and the consequences behind their cowardly actions. Heck... let's just let them take each other out. THEN we can all sleep better at night...

To be fair, this happened outside the district of what I and most people familiar with downtown Raleigh would call "downtown"...

Oh gosh I typed "accidental". My mind was somewhere else. The police are still investigating. I would hope that nothing like that was ruled as accidental.

I have lived on the 800 block of Edenton Street for 4 years now. I have to say it is much better, but there is still a far way to go. I am out of town, so I am not sure what happened. Even if I were home, I would still not know what happened because I do not walk toward the 900 block; I walk the OTHER way.

I do believe that the 'corner store' on the corner of Idlewilde and Edenton does belong to a former commissioner. So, the problem may go deeper than just cleaning up the street.

Four years ago, I heard gun shots about every other month. Now, it is about once every six months, so it has gotten better. BUT, if you think that every street is safe, no matter what part of the globe you live, you are sadly mistaken. Crime happens. Anywhere, anytime, by all types of people.

It is up to society to stand up to violence. On our streets, in our newspapers, on the internet, and on our TVs. WE are the ones who demand to see violence, and our children pay the price.

Those evil cars...they must be banned b/c they are killing the environment. At least it wasn't a SUV.

That corner is on a main thoroughfare into Raleigh! What do you mean when you say no one has any business there?

I've said many times when coming through there that someone would be killed there. Most of the time that is during daylight hours.

There needs to be constant extra attention from the police in that area.

That area is on the border of the well-to-do and the hard-done-by! I'm surprised there is not more serious crime than there is.

Don't even try comparing Raleigh to Durham; Durham seems to have a murder almost daily!
