Cary residents meet with police after weekend shooting
RALEIGH, N.C. — Cary police searched an apartment where an Apex man was killed this month, but a warrant returned Tuesday provides few details into what happened.

Jibrael Menelik, 28, died April 10 after being shot outside of 714 Pony Club Circle, at The Grove in Cary. Several residents told police they heard two men arguing before hearing gunshots around 2 a.m.

Investigators haven't named any suspects in the homicide case – the town's first since 2008 – and authorities have previously said they don't know if Menelik knew his attacker.

Police searched the apartment and Menelik's 2002 Buick Century Limited for any evidence that could assist in the investigation.

Among the items they seized were two cellular phones, two scales, a plastic food container and two sandwich and two freezer bags with contents. The warrant does not describe the contents and does not indicate exactly where investigators found them.

The warrant doesn't offer any motive for the shooting.

Menelik had been at the apartment for several hours before the shooting, according to an affidavit. A woman who lives there told investigators she woke up and heard him arguing with a man in a hooded sweatshirt. She was trying to get out of the apartment through a bedroom window when she heard a gunshot.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting should contact Cary police at 919-469-4012 or Crime Stoppers at 919-266-2746.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for up $2,500 for information leading to charges in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
