Three arrested after man assaulted in Raleigh
Raleigh police released the identities of two people arrested after a 30-year-old man was beaten up Wednesday evening in the Berkshire Downs neighborhood off Perry Creek Road.
Posted — UpdatedWitnesses said that Anthony Davis tried to break up a fight at McGuire Drive and Farmlea Circle shortly before 7 p.m. The fighters then turned on Davis, police said.
Davis' stepfather, Michael Newkirk, said he came upon the attackers.
“As soon as I got around here, I saw my son lying down. I said, ‘What are you all doing? What are you all doing?’ And they said, ‘What are you going to do? What are you going to do, old man?’ Then they attacked me,” Newkirk said.
Newkirk said paramedics transported his stepson to WakeMed to be treated for head and face injuries. He was listed in fair condition late Thursday.
Antoine Tarver, 21, and Herbert Watson, 18, were charged in the assault.
Police said the assault appears to have been an isolated incident.
Violent crime in that section of Wake County is down 30 percent based on 2009 statistics.

Tarver was released in September 2008 after serving time for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to the state Department of Correction records. During his 2½-year sentence, he racked 19 infractions, including active rioter, fighting, threatening staff and involvement with a gang.
