ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police said officers found the suspect in a December 2009 homicide hiding in an attic at 4129 Ketch Point Drive Friday.

Dewayne Avent, 18, of 313 Sanders Drive, is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 27, 2009, shooting death of Tronyale Daniel, 27.

Investigators said that Daniel got into a fight with two men and a woman near a vehicle at 1205 Parham St. Avent then ran around from the vehicle and shot Daniel in the chest, police said.

Avent was being held Saturday in the Nash County Jail without bond.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Avent was put on probation in September 2008 after being convicted of misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, according to state Department of Correction records.
