Former Princeville town manager sent to prison
A judge sent a former Princeville town manager to prison Friday for failing to reimburse the town $25,000 that he admitted to sending to an nonexistent construction company for unfinished work.

Sam Knight, 61, pleaded guilty in September to 13 counts of obtaining property by false pretense. He was sentenced to 30 months' probation and 90 days' house arrest and ordered to reimburse the town within 90 days. An indictment says he sent more than $25,000 to a nonexistent construction company for unfinished work.
Knight had paid back only $1,000 of the restitution before his Dec. 29, 2009, arrest, according to the Edgecombe County Clerk of Courts' office.
On Friday, N.C. Superior Court Judge Cy Grant revoked Knight's probation and ordered him to serve up to eight months in prison.
The case against Knight stemmed from a State Bureau of Investigation probe into the town's handling of Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster funds after Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
Knight’s indictment did not include charges that he abused or mishandled relief money.
Princeville is a town of about 2,000 established at the end of the Civil War. It was mostly destroyed by flooding after Hurricane Floyd, then rebuilt.
