The driver, Terence Jones, 35, of Spring Lake, was traveling down Ray Road when he saw people on the side of the road. The teen suddenly decided to cross the road and darted into the street. The driver said he had no time to react, Edwards said.

Investigators have not figured out why the teen suddenly walked into the street.

Jones remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charge have been filed.

The teen was identified as Jonathan McKenzie, 15, of Linden, Edwards said. McKenzie was a student at Overhills High School.

So sad. I saw the kids gathering today.

My thoughts and prayers are with his parents, family and friends. From what I understand, he was an extremely popular, outgoing kid and will be deeply missed.

Ray Road on a good day is a horrible, twisty-turny, narrow stretch of race track. It's especially dangerous with all the aggressive driving. Try turning left onto Ray Road from 210 between 5-7pm and you'll know what I mean. No traffic lights except at 210/Ray Rd. and Ray Rd. and Nursery Rd. Speed limit is 45 in some areas and 55 in others and on any given day is like the Indy 500 during rush hour. No body wants to slow down. There are no sidewalks anywhere and the emergency lanes might as well be nonexistent. The widening project is only in the planning stages. The new school they built is just icing on a very bad cake.

Not sure if this was a preventable accident or not but I do feel that this road is a very unsafe road for bike riders and pedestrians.

    Too bad for everyone involved.

Chances are the 15 y/o boy had a momentary lapse of where and what he was doing. Teen boys are the worst!! I know how boys that age are, I was one, as were my friends then and I've seen both my sons, and lots of other boys go through it in my life.

Girls seem to not get that teen time when they have the infamous "brain poots". (I had to clean that up for Golo, the prudes) Some guys never grow out of it and seek it, willfully.

    "HEY ya'll, watch'is!!"
