CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The puppy at the heart of a dispute between North Carolina and New York is no longer so special. Lilly, an 8-week-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix, had an operation Thursday to remove a fifth leg, WBTV in Charlotte reported.

Lilly was born with a fifth, useless leg. Because of that, the owner of a freak show on Coney Island offered $3,000 to buy her. A Charlotte woman made a counter-offer and purchased Lilly for $4,000 last week.

Allyson Siegel told WBTV that she rushed to have Lilly's extra appendage removed to eliminate any interest or claim the freak show owner may have had.

A Charlotte bar is raising money to cover Lilly's veterinarian bill. The Dog Bar, at 3307 North Davidson St., will donate $1 from every beer sold Friday evening to the fund.
