Sampson authorities seek missing mom, boy

Mary Esther Avellaneda, 38, and Jose Andres Avellaneda, 13, are missing.

Sampson County authorities are looking for a woman and her son who have not been seen at their Salemburg home since Sunday evening.

A family member reported Mary Esther Avellaneda, 38, and Jose Andres Avellaneda, 13, missing. The two left the home in a car with Avellaneda's estranged husband, Jose Cruz Avellaneda, at about 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the report. Family members grew concerned when Jose Avellaneda returned to the home alone.

He was seen driving a 1995, four-door, white, Chevrolet Lumina with N.C. license plate XZX-8054.

Family members told sheriff's deputies that the couple had been living apart. Jose Avellaneda has refused to talk with authorities about where his wife and son might be.

The Sampson County sheriff’s office is asking that anyone who has information about where the woman and boy could be call 910-592-4141.
