— The kitchen at Smith Middle School was vandalized last week, and the vandals urinated in the ice machine, according to a letter sent to school staff and parents of students.

The vandalism occurred Dec. 15, and school officials said the ice machine was used Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, officials said. Ice from the machine is used to chill containers on the lunch serving line and is used in drinks by students and staff, officials said.

After learning of the possibility of tainted ice, Smith Middle officials said, they removed all ice from the machine and any items that might have come in contact with the ice.

The Orange County Health Department said there is no known health risk to anyone who might have consumed tainted ice. Public health officials also were instructing the school on how to properly clean and disinfect affected surfaces and equipment before using them again.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools officials have referred the case to Chapel Hill police for possible criminal charges.

At least urine tends to come from the body sterile, given the person doesn't have any kind of UTI. Still absolutely disgusting, but.. could have been a lot worse.

That's true.....but once it leaves the body it's no longer sterile!

For those of you that think this is funny, I'm sure you wouldn't be laughing if you were the one that had that ice in your glass. This isn't funny!!!!

"That school would be replacing the ice machine instead of "cleaning" it. They'd be replacing every pan and glass that came in contact with the contaminated ice also before my child set food in that school cafeteria again."
Cleaning is good enough for your hands after going to the restroom why wouldn't it be good enough for an ice machine where they can use much stronger chemicals? Of course if you are volunteering to pay for a new machine feel free to contact the School.....

I'm sorry I ROFL'd when I read the story. How could they not have known. Being in one of the many SNOW communities, and working with chair bound people, You learn it can't be ignored. If they missed it they must have had their noses plugged.

That is the justice that our school systems are demonstrating today. The secular progressive world view is decaying the lines of right and wrong. A good principal would have been outraged and suspended the tainter on the spot. The only way your son's retaliation would come under fire is if it were pushed by the other parents, which I doubt would have happen, and the punishment should have been far less severe. (Although I cant think of a better counter action than what your son did.) The potential affects of bio-crimes could severally threaten healthy students. Drug addicts intentionally expose others to there diseases such as HIV/AIDS and can be charged with attempted murder. These actions have to be taken seriously by schools' administrations. If not, our kids will not the confidence that justice will be served and end up taking matters in there our hands.

Ok folks just remember when you are at a restaurant and are rude to the waiter ...you never know what is in your food...People urinate, spit, drop food on the ground and then serve it..also don't go to a restaurant right before it is about to close, most likely something will be done to your food...FOOD FOR THOUGHT...this is a precaution, people are nuts now-a-days...take care

If you're an American before you go into the bathroom, and you're an American when you come out of the bathroom, what are you when you're in the bathroom?

    Give up?

That school would be replacing the ice machine instead of "cleaning" it. They'd be replacing every pan and glass that came in contact with the contaminated ice also before my child set food in that school cafeteria again. I hope they find out who did this and take real action against them instead of just giving them a pat on the back and sending them back to class.

To the idiot school officials and health dept. officials, urine is a body fluid and can pass diseases onto others.
