The owner of Fantasy Lake Water Park said authorities told her it appeared a truck parked near the building had been set ablaze, and the fire quickly spread.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A fire that destroyed the clubhouse at Fantasy Lake Water Park reignited Friday, firefighters said.

A backhoe cleaning up the rubble reignited some hot ashes, causing the fire to flare up around 12:30 p.m., Stoney Point Fire Chief Freddy L. Johnson said.

Firefighters stayed on the scene for three hours and used 8,000 gallons of water to put out the fire, Johnson said.

Investigators suspect that arson caused the fire to break out in a truck near the end of the building where chemicals were stored sometime after midnight Thursday. The fire quickly spread through the 10,000-square-foot clubhouse.

The clubhouse contains an arcade, pool room, gift shop, restaurant, offices and mechanic's shop.

Majorie and James Turner bought the park, at 5869 Permastone Lake Road, in 2005 and built it up into a local landmark.
