Suspects in shootout with Wake deputies face drug-trafficking charges
The suspects involved in a shootout with Wake County deputies Wednesday evening were involved in trafficking cocaine, investigators said Thursday.

Deputies said they spotted a man wanted on outstanding warrants riding in a car and followed the vehicle into the parking lot of the InTown Suites, 1491 U.S. Highway 70 West, around 6 p.m. When deputies tried to serve the warrant, a shooting erupted.
A deputy shot one suspect, Marcus Antonio Williams, 21, of 600 Essington Place, Raleigh. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies plan to charge Marcus Williams when he is released from WakeMed with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and one count each of trafficking in cocaine by transportation and trafficking in cocaine by possession.
Akeem Holder Evans, 18, of 2613 Evers Drive, Raleigh, faces two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, along with one count each of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, trafficking in cocaine by transportation, trafficking in cocaine by possession and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances.
Deputies also arrested Randy Lorentz Williams, 45, of 2710 Evers Road, Raleigh, for conspiracy to traffic cocaine, trafficking in cocaine by transportation and trafficking in cocaine by possession.
Evans and Randy Williams were being held in the Wake County Jail under separate $500,000 and $275,000 secured bonds, respectively.
The deputies involved in the shooting – Master Deputies G. Barnes and J. Vaughn – have been placed on administrative leave, and the State Bureau of Investigation is examining the incident. Both actions follow standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
Barnes has served with the sheriff's office for seven years, and Vaughn, for four years.
Marcus Williams was on probation for a February conviction for driving while impaired in Wake, according to Department of Correction records. He served 18 months after a November 2004 conviction for assault inflicting serious bodily injuring.
Marcus Williams has also faced charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and resisting a public officer.
Randy Williams was convicted on drug charges in Wake in 2002, 1998, 1994 and 1992. He was released from jail in March after serving almost four months for assault on a female.
