Wilson Officers Kill Shooting Suspect

Posted April 21, 2008

— Wilson police officers fatally shot a man early Monday when he brandished a gun at them, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Narrow Way at about 4:10 a.m. Monday in response to a report that shots had been fired. When they arrived at the scene, a man suspected to be the shooter confronted them with a gun, police said.

The man failed to comply with several orders from the officers, and they fired at him and killed him, police said.

A person who had been shot before police arrived was transported to Wilson Medical Center and then taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville. Police refused to disclose his condition Monday.

Police withheld the names of the initial victim, the man they killed and the officers involved.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called to review the case, which is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings.

What a absurd headline. It should read "Wilson police officer protects himself." Too bad for the bad guy.

I feel bad for the cop that had to shoot the bad guy. Put in a situation that there is no more talking and a death is the only way out. I wish the best for the guys that when the time come, they did their jobs just as they were trained.

I am so proud of our officers!! Good for them. We have a great group of officers! As for WRAL, I agree and think another title should be used. Try Wilson PD takes out a murderer!! I swear we have some idios that live here. Maybe the crackheads will get the point and move else where!

Once again WRAL puts out another biased title...I would say shame on you but I wonder if WRAL has any conscience. I hope one day that they go back to reporting the facts....

Sad day for the families of the man and the person he tried to murder. Scary day for the officers families and for the officers. Glad you are all safe!

Another death in this gun loving shoot'em up nation.

    America is violently sick.

I would not go as far as to say that " Wilson has the best police force" I am from wilson and they have a tough job. The police force there is not adequate enough to deal with the kind of people that live in that area of wilson. They some times blur the lines as to which people to harass and which to pursue. There are alot of business that have left wilson because the crime rate is up and the conviction rate seems to be down. Almost a mini Durham, I am glad that I left.:)
