ROXBORO, N.C. — The search continued Sunday for a man accused of causing a sheriff's deputy to crash his vehicle in Person County.

The chase began at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Mollie Mooney Road after a deputy tried to pull over a man wanted for a probation violation. The suspect sped off in a purplish 2001 Mercury Sable, and the deputy gave chase.

About seven minutes into the chase, the suspect hit the brakes, forcing the deputy to swerve to avoid a collision. The deputy’s car ran off the road and crashed at 1344 Denny’s Store Road near the Granville-Person county line.

The 40-year-old deputy was transported by helicopter to Duke University Hospital. His name and condition were withheld Saturday night.

Deputies said they are looking for suspected driver Joshua Adam Campbell, 22. He is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown eyes and hair.  The car's license tag number is WTX-3035.

Anyone with information about Campbell's whereabouts is asked to call the Person County's Sheriff's Office at 336-597-0545.
