Third Suspect Arrested in Retired Soldier's Death

Marlon Davinsky Alexander Jr., 21, of 3300 Rehobeth Church Road, Greensboro, was held without bond in the Cumberland County Detention Center.

He allegedly participated in the robbery and shooting death of Charles “Sonny” Miller, 69, during the early morning hours of Jan. 31.

Two other men were previously arrested in connection with the shooting – Francis Geraldo Burgos, 22, of 1605 Diplomat Drive, Fayetteville, and Steven Corey Blanks, 22, of 6529 Green Meadow Court, Fayetteville.

All three suspects were charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, conspiracy and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Alexander was scheduled for a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the detention center.

Investigators said they believe the men shot Miller multiple times during a home invasion and that robbery was the motive.

Miller was in the Army's Special Forces and served in Vietnam, his relatives said. He owned Miller's Plumbing and left behind three sons and a daughter.

Miller's niece, Glenda Williams, described her uncle as a kind-hearted man. After his death, his neighbors spoke well of Miller and expressed shock at his violent death.

"He was always kind to people," said a neighbor who identified himself only as John. "I've heard from all the neighbors already. Everybody is just up in arms about this."

"I wouldn't have any idea why anyone would want to hurt him. He never gave anybody any problems. He always tried to help people," said another neighbor, John Davis.

"He was better than a brother to me," neighbor Charlie Dennison said.
