A community will pause Wednesday to remember former North Carolina State University wrestler Tab Thacker.

A public viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lea Funeral Home near Poole Road. Visitation will be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, immediately followed by his funeral.

Thacker died Dec. 28, 2007, after a long illness complicated by diabetes. He was 45.

Thacker was a three-time All-American who won the NCAA championship in 1984. He went on to a movie career with such films as "City Heat" and "Police Academy."

Thacker's funeral will be Thursday at Springfield Baptist Church off Auburn-Knightdale Road. He will be buried in Winston Salem.

"I never thought that!"

I'll miss him, but I'll always have Police Academy.

pikemom - why does something negative ALWAYS come from you. Here is a New Years resolution for you - think before you speak. It's not necessary to say something all the time.

I... Wanna play.

How sad this is. He was so young and it sounds like he was a really great guy. My condolences to the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the deceased family and friends. He seemed like he was a good person. So sad he lost his life at such a young age. He was just in his prime.
