WENDELL, N.C. — More than 50 buses at East Wake High School in Wendell were damaged overnight by vandals, a Wake County Public School System spokesman said Friday.

The school system's security staff found the damage around 2:30 a.m. during routine checks

The buses had front-right tire damage, and the vandals used washable paint to write messages on the buses, Bill Poston, a public information officer, said.

More than a dozen school system transportation staff workers were called in to repair the buses, and some buses from other transportation districts were brought in to reduce delays.

Twenty-five buses could not leave on time, but all were repaired and back in service by 10:30 a.m.

The school system is working with local law enforcement to identify the vandals, Poston said.
