Fayetteville police have identified a man shot to death early Friday morning at an apartment complex.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Fayetteville police have identified a man shot to death early Friday morning at an apartment complex.

Officers were called to the Lake in the Pines complex off Rosehill Road after reports of gunfire. The found a man lying on the ground behind building 3949. The victim was later identified as Phillip Purdue, 26.

Resident Nicole Miller said she heard between four and six gunshots and then "someone run and hit the pavement." A car speed out of the parking lot, she said.

A gun was later found behind another building just yards from the body.

At least six bullet holes were visible in the apartment building. The projectiles had pierced through second-story walls and sliced through the floor in the hallway.
