1 Dead, 1 Injured in Durham County Shooting

One man has been killed and another injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Durham County, the sheriff's department said.

DURHAM, N.C. — One man was killed and another injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon at an abandoned house in Durham County, the sheriff's department said.

At about 1:30 p.m., officers were called to 3207 Wake Forest Highway, just outside the city limits, Durham County sheriff's investigator Paul Martin said.

They found 38-year-old Steven L. Mitchell of 114 S. Woodcrest St. with a gunshot wound to the head behind the house. He died.

A second man, whom authorities declined to identify, was found in the front yard with  a gunshot wound. He was treated at Duke University Hospital and released, Martin said.
