RALEIGH — It looks like the proposal for a radioactivewaste dump in Wake County has been nuked. Legislators have refused to bailout the project.
A state agency overseeing the dump shut it down Friday due to a lackof funding. Monday, lawmakers said they would allocate no more money forthe project.
Developing the site, which is located on the Wake-Chatham County line,has already cost well over $100 million. Lawmakers say the only thingthey've gotten in return for that money is a pile of paper.
