RALEIGH — It looks like the proposal for a radioactive waste dump in Wake County has been nuked. Legislators have refused to bail out the project.
A state agency overseeing the dump shut it down Friday due to a lack of funding. Monday, lawmakers said they would allocate no more money for the project.
Developing the site, which is located on the Wake-Chatham County line, has already cost well over $100 million. Lawmakers say the only thing they've gotten in return for that money is a pile of paper.
