RALEIGH — In a 4 - 3 vote, Wake County Commissionersapproved a modified plan Monday for construction of a firing rangein Holly Springs. The project has been controversial.
Some residents welcomed the idea, others protested saying the range would be too near homes and a school.
But the Planning Department submitted a plan this morning that modifiedone submitted earlier. Now, 40 people will be able to use the facility atone time; it will be enclosed; and only rifles and pistols will beallowed.
The earlier plan would have allowed up to 60 people, been semi-enclosedand also allowed skeet shooting.
The firing range will be built next to a landfill.
