Death Row Inmate Found Dead in Apparent Suicide
RALEIGH, N.C. — A death row inmate was found dead in an apparent suicide at Central Prison in Raleigh Sunday night, officials said.

A corrections officer on routine rounds found Eric Queen hanging in a janitor's closet at approximately 7 p.m., according to Keith Acree, public affairs director for the North Carolina Department of Correction.

He was pronounced dead in the Central Prison emergency room at 7:19 pm., officials said.

Queen, 28, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and several other related charges in connection with the August 1998 murders of Susan Moore and Tracy Lambert in Cumberland County.

Debra Cheeseborough was shot several times in the same incident, but survived, officials said.

The Department of Correction will conduct an internal investigation into Queen’s death, and the State Bureau of Investigation will also investigate, as is routine in unnatural inmate deaths.
