The village will be an educational exhibit for visitors and a source ofpride for those who still call themselves Occaneechi.
Students who learn about Native Americans and the eral in schoolfind a wealth of information in the village.
Native American John Jeffries says there are demonstrations oftoolmaking that show how things were done before Europeans came to thiscountry.
Jeffries says the village is a good replica of the original, and notfar away from it.
Tribe Chairman Lawrence Dunmore says if it hadn't been for theOccaneechi, there would be no Hillsborough.
Members of the Occaneechi Tribe plan to have the village completed by April. It will be open to visitors and school groups 24 hours a day.
