Many Fayetteville polling sites had more than 300 people come in beforenoon. Last month, the primary brought out 17,000 people. Poll workers arehoping just as many vote today.
Fayetteville voters are deciding on a new city council. The currentcouncil became clearly divided when five of the nine members voted to firelong-term city manager Jim Smith. Voters now appear to be divided, aswell.
Anne Adams of the board of elections says this is basically a one issuerace.
Some say the same issues that divided the city council are keeping someaway from the polls. Voter Edward Baldwin told WRAL-TV5'sTerri Grucahe thinks interest is low.
Curbside voting, for those who for some reason cannot get out of theirvehicles, is available at the Cumberland Community Foundation. Workerswill bring ballots out to the vehicles.
